Come and discover the mountains of Lombardy!
Lombardy is the most populated region in Italy. Milan, its "capital", located at the center of the region is the hub of trade and productive activities. The northern part of the region is dominated by the Alps. A few kilometers far from the big cities and airports there are the alpine valleys where you can go hiking all year round! The airports of Malpensa and Bergamo (Orio al Serio) are very close to the Alps and you can reach the mountains even in a single weekend if you can organize your flights booking.
All seasons are good for discovering the mountains in Lombardy!
In summer you can have fantastic trekking in the granite massif of Masino Bregaglia with the elegant Pizzo Badile 3.308 m, or go trekking in the beautiful and panoramic Valmalenco with Piz Bernina and its glaciers. In the easter part of Lombardy you can hike in the Adamello valleys with the largest glacier in Italy and where the traces of the First World War are still visible. Between Valtellina and Bergamo, not so far from Milan you can enjoy the Orobie mountains rich in lakes.
The pre-alps of Lecco and Como, very close to Milan, are great for day hike or multy-day trekking during spring and autumn.
In winter snowshoeing in the alps is a must, but you can also go trekking close to the lakes thanks to mild winter climate!
